Dear Colleague,
The MOTHERS Act may or may not make it past the U.S. Senate but awareness of PPD--one of the Act's main purposes--is growing, in part, as a result of the controversy surrounding the bill. For this, we have the bill's detractors to thank. Most recently, actress and Scientologist Kirstie Alley let loose a very misinformed and misleading tirade against the Act on her Twitter page--echoing claims made by Scientology's front group, the Citizens Commission on Human Rights--which caught the attention of such mainstream news and opinion sites such as Politico.com and DailyKos.com. From there, the debate spread to the blogosphere. With luck, some true and correct information about PPD and what women can do about it will emerge from the hullabaloo.
